Tether Mess - Or Not?

Underwater surface reflections can make for some interesting illusions, especially for new users. In the following image, it may look like the tether is knotted up.

But the top half is all refection. The actual path of the real tether is shown below.

This can happen in open water as well, so if you turn around and see a mess like this behind you, don't panic. In this case, you can see there is no knot or even overlapping tether.

Tom,

In our training we prefer to have the working through a very tough entanglement. In the pool we usually tie a series of knots that each student must untie. We've even started making it a competition to see who can get it untangled the fastest...

Here are a couple of pictures from some recent training classes. And yes, the students are the one's who get these knots out, not the instructors.
