Rugged New Skid Available from Patrick Rowe at MidWest ROV

If your a serious VideoRay operator, and all to familiar with the rough handling and abuse it sees in the field, you'll be interested in the new skid designed and in production by MidWest ROV L.L.C. [ http://www.midwestrov.com ].

While retaining the same appearance and all the original functionality of the old polycarbonate skid (so it's backwards compatible with any hardware, instrumentation configuration, or operational techniques your already using), Patrick's skid offers; (1) a significant improvement in overall structural durability, and (2) greater flexibility in configuring ballast weights and other attachments.

Constructed of tough (white or black) ABS plastic, the skid has a robust feel to it, with the backbone twice as wide and thick as the standard skid. This provides allot more meat for the longer stainless screws to get a grip where the backbone attaches to the dome port retainers, thus reducing the potential for thread strip-out or stress fractures. The thicker backbone also prevents ballast weight attachment screws from accidentally digging into the hardcoat on the main housing, since the threaded holes do not go all the way through.

As an option, Patrick will provide a large number of threaded mounting holes which have been skillfully configured to provide maximum positioning flexibility for weights, manipulators, instrumentation, ect... . This is a big plus for fine tuning, and adding unique mission attachments.

This skid (and it associated hardware) has been extremely well thought-out, right down to the smallest detail, and after sea-trialing it I'm now using it as my primary skid around our manned underwater lab.
