Innovative Hull Survey Technique with the Pro4

Jeff Snyder, President, SeaVision Underwater Solutions, Inc.

The use of VideoRay vehicles as ship's hull search tools has been widely proven by users in the private sector, and in public search agencies. Increased thruster performance, improved heading sensors, and a simple yet effective hull crawler attachment are capabilities in the Pro4 that contribute directly to superior hull search investigations. Typical search techniques utilize the Pro4's video camera, coupled with a high-resolution imaging sonar such as a BlueView or Tritech Gemini, to search a vessel hull and document conditions of the hull for security purposes. To date, very few - if any - techniques have been demonstrated that allow for a complete, 100% hull coverage snapshot of a vessel hull. Utilizing a Pro4 and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology, the presenter will demonstrate a new technique that will illustrate how the Pro4 can be used to generate a complete high-resolution image of a ship's hull. This base plan can be created and interpreted in the field, quickly, prior to deploying the Pro4 for specific investigation and prosecution of abnormal targets.
