An Immersive Experiance

Postby chrisol » Thu Mar 11, 2010 7:33 pm

In the not too distant future a child may visit the public aquarium. They will don an immersive headmounted display and glove at a booth next to it, ... instantly they find themselves inside the aquarium surrounded by the sights and sounds of the underwater world. They hear strange clicks and whistles while moving their heads side-to-side and up-and-down to view their new surroundings. A dolphin swims-by and and stops momentarily to look at them "eye to eye" with a knowing smile only arms length away, and seems to beckon the child to follow. The child instinctively reaches toward the dolphin and follows it for a while as it tours the aquarium. A little bolder now, the child sees a moray eel swimming-by and observes it before it retreats into its lair. As the child follows the moray into it's cave giant sea anemones contract as they approach,.... suddenly, the moray turns, and the young observer is greeted "nose to nose" by an impressive set of teeth.

This reality is probably much closer than we think.
